What is Deep Research and how do I use it in le Chat?

Updated yesterday

Deep Research marks a major leap in le Chat’s abilities, allowing it to conduct independent, thorough, multi-step research by gathering and synthesizing information from the public web much like a human researcher.

This feature helps you generate comprehensive, well-documented, and properly cited reports for your work, studies, or personal projects.

🔑 Driven by our most advanced language model, Deep Research is designed to find and process information seamlessly, reducing hours of manual research to minutes.

How to use Deep Research

Deep Research is not your typical web search but a powerful reasoning assistant: start by asking a simple question, and the AI will guide you through a structured process to refine your request and generate a detailed report.

1. Activate research mode and submit your query

In le Chat interface, toggle on the Research mode (1), located right below the chat input box, then submit your query (2) as you normally would for any other chat.

🚨 Enabling Research mode disables the use of Tools (Libraries, Connections, etc.), as well as Agents.

💡 You may start with something simple (“Fetch me the top 10 holidays destination for this summer”) or go with a more complex query: “Provide a comprehensive analysis of the current market trends for residential solar panels in Western Europe, including key players, recent technological advancements, and government incentives.”

2. Refine the research plan and start the research

After you submit your query, le Chat will analyze it and propose a research plan to follow.

If you're unsatisfied or wish to adjust the plan, simply click on the Edit button (2) and modify the text to your liking, or reply directly in the chat to ask for changes.

Otherwise, click Start (3) to begin the research.

🔑 A Deep Research task may take anywhere from 15 minutes (reduced to 5 minutes with Flash Answers⚡️ activated), up to several minutes to complete, depending on the complexity of your query.

📌 Le Chat might ask you to provide additional details before generating the research plan. Simply reply in the chat to provide the necessary information and proceed as explained above.

3. Monitor the research in progress or continue using le Chat

Once you click Start, the research begins as a background task, meaning it runs independently of your current chat.

You may monitor the progress of the research, indicated by at the top of the research widget and consult the summary of the model’s thought process and searches in real-time.

4. Receive and use the research report

Once the research is complete, the final report will be directly accessible in your chat conversation, presented in a clean, easy-to-read format along with a quick summary at the very top of the report.
