An Agent is a specialized assistant you can use directly in le Chat or programmatically via APIs.
Configured with instructions, tools, and knowledge, an Agent can perform tasks like:
Answering questions with a specific tone or style
Drafting emails or reports based on your mailbox and calendar
Analyzing data and generating insights from your files
🔑 When you find yourself repeating the same instructions or using the same tools again and again, an Agent can streamline your workflow.
How to create an Agent in le Chat
You can build and customize Agents directly in le Chat.
1. Access the Agents page
Open the Agents page by clicking Agents
in the left menu.

2. Create a new Agent
On the Agents page:

to build a new Agent from scratch (1).Or select a prebuilt template as a starting point (2).
Choose Create Agent

3. Configure your Agent
On the configuration screen, set:
Name (required): Use a clear, descriptive name.
Description (optional): Briefly state what the Agent does.
Avatar (optional): Choose an avatar from presets or generate one.
Instructions (required): Write clear, detailed guidance for the model (see How to write good instructions for my Agent? 🔎).

4. Advanced settings (optional)
Your Agent is ready to use at this point, but you can further customize its behavior and extend its capabilities.
Guardrails and tone/personality
These settings are added to your Agent’s instructions and help control responses and style.
Guardrails: Define limits and safety rules for responses.
Tone/personality: Add prompts to adjust style and voice.

Knowledge and Tools
Connect your Agent to external data and tools to perform tasks beyond text-only responses.
Tools: Enable capabilities like
Web search

.Connectors: Link external data sources (e.g., Google Drive, Gmail, SharePoint).
Libraries: Attach one or more of your Libraries.
🔑 Compatibility rules:
Libraries cannot be used together with Knowledge Connectors (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft SharePoint). Picking one disables the other.
Other (non-knowledge) Connectors (e.g., mail, calendar, action tools) can be used alongside Libraries.

5. Preview and iterate
Use the preview panel to test the Agent in real time. Adjust settings until you’re satisfied.

🔑 There’s no explicit save button: your Agent is created and updated automatically as you configure it.

APIs and la Plateforme
Agents created in le Chat can’t be used programmatically.
If you need programmatic access, use la Plateforme’s Agent Builder for a GUI workflow, or create Agents directly with our REST API.
